Welcome to Historic Winona, MN

Founded in 1851, Winona is known for its rich history, beautifully restored and preserved buildings, its three post-secondary educational institutions, numerous historical landmarks, as well as unique cultural and recreational opportunities.

Winona, “The Island City” is located on the picturesque banks of the Mississippi River among the towering bluffs of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Directly across the street from the main campus of Winona State University, The Quad 2.0 Summer Hostel is located in the heart of Winona at 307 W 10th St (corner of 10th and Huff St).

Winona County History Center

Just a few blocks away in the heart of historic downtown Winona, you’ll find the Winona County History Center. The History Center is housed in a 1915 Armory and the award-winning contemporary Laird Norton Addition. Exhibits examine life in Winona as lived by both lumber baron and laborer,  the area’s unique geologic formation, a superb collection of Native Americana, architecture, industry, farming, entertainment and more.

Outdoor Recreation

Just a few blocks south of the Quad 2.0 Summer Hostel, Winona’s Lake Park features a 5 mile paved fitness and recreation trail that winds around both East and West Lakes.

Winona and the surrounding area boast a number of picturesque, relaxing, and challenging hiking & biking opportunities. Within 20 minutes of Winona, there are five different state parks, each with multiple trails and terrain types to satisfy everyone from occasional hikers/bikers to seasoned triathletes.

Speaking of triathlons, many of the competing athletes for Winona’s annual world-class triathlon, choose the Quad 2.0 Summer Hostel for their home during Trinona triathlon each June. You can find more information on Trinona here.

Amtrak Station: The Quad 2.0 is located 5.5 blocks from the Winona Amtrak Station.
